How does it work?
The Gentle SprayTM Anti-Bark Collar has a small microphone designed to respond to the barking sound of the dog. When the microphone picksup a bark, the unit releases a spray of citronella in front of the dog's snout. Through conditioned reflex, it discourages the dog from barking.

There are approximately 300 sprays in each (85 gm) refill can.

Can the spray be harmful for my dog or family?
The spray solution has been found to be extremely safe. Its ozone friendly propellant is the same inert product used in asthma pumps for humans. The citronella essence is a natural essential oil that has been used in many human, animal and environmental applications for thousands of years. Although it can cause discomfort to certain individuals with allergies to citronella, it is considered nontoxic, especially at the very low levels given off by the collar. Each spray contains less than 10% citronella. If allergies develop, a scentless spray is available.
Can the spray harm my dog's eyes?
The citronella solution is buffered to minimize any discomfort to the eyes. However, as with any aerosol product, the spray should not be aimed directly into the eyes. The collar, being worn on the neck, is directed at the snout. This makes it a safe distance from your dog's eyes since the spray dissipates very quickly.
Can my pet become accustomed to the spray?
This is possible. To reduce the likelihood of this happening, it is important to refill the unit each time you put it on your dog. Also, it is important to make sure the citronella doesn't run out while your dog is wearing the collar, so there aren't instances of the dog barking without getting sprayed. Using positive reinforcement as part of the training, will also help reduce the likelihood of this happening.

We got one of these for our barker because a behaviorist advised us you can't argue with or reason with a barker when s/he's doing it. It works great and the dog smells terrific. Seriously, we only put it on him when we know he will be in one of those situations where he is likely to bark, such as strangers coming to the house, or a visit to a dog-friendly beach. The darn things are super-expensive, BUT A) they don't hurt like a shock collar and B) they never fail, unlike dog whistles which are only useful on some dogs. Caution: do not sneeze while your dog is sitting on your lap wearing the collar, or you will get a dose, too.

I must say the Anti-Bark collar did stop my dog's barking immediately. One bark, one squirt, and that was the end of it. So, in that regard the collar worked beautifully. However, the down side was that when my dog shook, which all dogs do, it caused the collar to spray. I followed all troubleshooting guidelines to see if that would correct the problem, but it didn't. So, my dog was getting the wrong message. He is now afraid to move. I just can't use this collar on him.

I bought this for my 7 year old golden retriever who has started barking more throughout the day. The product was recommended by our trainer. It worked well for about the first three days. The dog would bark once, get sprayed and stop immediately. After that, he would get sprayed and could care less. He would just continue to bark and get sprayed.

This collar worked like a charm, one spray and he stopped barking. I put the collar on him and all we hear are squeaks and soft whining, what he doesn't know is that the battery is dead. Its a winner!
