The biggest dog show in the world is just around the corner. With roughly 2500 dogs entered and International media coverage, this event is in a league of its own. In 2008 the winner for “Best in Show” was “Uno”, it was the first time a beagle had won best in the show after 133 years of competition. “Uno” became an international hit and has been on the red carpet with famous celebrities, made numerous appearances on late night television and was even a Jeopardy question.
The Westminster dog show was first held in 1877 and has been held annually ever since. In 1905, the show had an entry of over 1700 dogs making it the biggest dog show in the world. Television coverage of the show began in 1948. The Westminster dog show is the second longest lasting continuous sporting event that is still being held today.
