Answers from other users of this product seem to indicate that it should be safe to place directly on the screen so long as: 1. The bulbs do not extend past the dome housing. 2. The screens are metal and not plastic. 3. MOST IMPORTANTLY- So long as somewhere on the packaging it states that the product is heat proof for a similar purpose. Though these items generally are for this very purpose, if not specifically stated then you might want to try testing it at a time when you can keep an eye on it. Polarized plug. Fixture is for use above screen top reptile terrariums. Not for use inside any animal cage or terrarium (risk of fire). Make sure dome is securely suspended above the terrarium with appropriate hanging items/fasteners. Not for use with ceramic heat emitters. Keep fixture high and out of reach of children. Avoid overheating your terrarium. Do not splice, repair or modify. Do not use in wet conditions. Use indoors only. Fully insert plug. Unplug when not in use. Fully extend cord before using. Do not cover with blankets, rugs or any material. Do not use damaged cord sets - inspect periodically. Do not exceed electrical ratings.
