OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS: Please read the following instructions before using your new Andi clipper. Give it the care that a fine precision built instrument deserves and it will give you years of service.

Before starting clipper, remove blade guard (some models may not have a blade guard). Plug cord into electrical outlet, operate at 120 volt, 60 cycle AC electrical current or as noted on the unit. To start clipper, move switch button to ON position. To stop clipper, move switch button back to original position. After using your clipper, re-wrap cord and store in a safe place.

USING ATTACHMENT COMBS

(Some models do not have combs and sizes will vary by kit)

You can set the blades for a coarser cut by attaching any of the snap-on attachment combs made for your clipper. The attachment combs mount easily they snap on and off (Figures A & B). These attachment combs guide hair into the clipper blades and give you precise control of hair lengths. The length of trim is indicated on the comb: ⅛", ¼, ⅜" and ½".

Use the chart to find the approximate lengths of cut. Different blade angles in relation to the skin, thickness and texture of the hair will vary the cutting length.

Removing Blade Set:

To remove blade set, first make sure your clipper is switched OFF and UNPLUGGED. Plush down on blade, then gently pull the blade forward (Figure C), and slide it off the blade hinge. If your blade hinge should snap closed and is flush with the clipper, use a small standard screwdriver to pry the tongue of the hinge out (Figure D).

Note:

Hair may accumulate in the front cavity of the housing under the blade. If this happens, you can clean out the hair by brushing out the cavity with a small brush or an old toothbrush while the blade is off the clipper.

Replacing or Changing Blade Set

To replace or change your blade set, slide the blade bracket onto the hinge of the clipper (Figure E) and with the clipper turned ON, push the blade towards the clipper to lock into position.

Blade Temperature

Due to the high speed nature of Andis clippers, please check for blade heat often, especially on close cutting blades. If blades are too hot, dip the blades only into Andis Blade Care Plus or apply Andis Cool Care Plus and then Andis Clipper Oil. If you have a detachable blade unit, you can change your blade in order to maintain a comfortable temperature; using multiple blades of the same size is popular among groomers.

Care and servicing of your Andis Clipper Blades:

Blades should be oiled before, during, and after each use. If your clipper blades leave streaks or slow down, it's a sure sign blades need oil. The clipper should be held in the position shown in Figure F to prevent oil from getting into motor. Place a few drops of Andis Clipper Oil on the front and side of the cutter blades (Figure G). Wipe excess oil off blades with a soft dry cloth. Spray lubricants contain insufficient oil for good lubrication, but are an excellent clipper blade coolant. Always replace broken or nicked blades to prevent injury. You can clean the excess hair from your blades by using a small brush or worn out tooth brush. To clean the blades we suggest to immerse the blades only into a shallow pan of Andis Clipper Oil, while the clipper is running. Any excess hair and dirt that has accumulated between the blades should come out. After cleaning, turn your clipper OFF and dry blades with a dry cloth and start clipping again.

If upon cleaning your blades you find that the blades will still no cut, there may be a few fine pieces of hair trapped between the upper and lower blade. If this happens, you will need to snap the blade off the clipper. Proceed to slide the upper blade to one side, without loosening the tension spring or moving the upper blade completely out from under the tension spring (See Figure H for position of blade). Wipe the surface between the blades clean with a dry cloth, then place a drop of clipper oil where the upper and lower blades meet and also in the guide slot of the tension spring (Figure H). Now slide the upper blade to the opposite side of the lower blade and repeat this process. After completing this procedure, slide the upper blade, centering it over the lower blade. Handle or store your Andis Clipper with the blades down so excess oil will not run into the clipper case.

Changing the blade drive assembly

If your clipper blades no longer cut properly (be sure to try more than one blade, since the blade currently being used may be dull), it could be that your blade drive assembly needs replacement. Please contact an Andis Authorized Service Station for replacement.

Caution:

Never handle your Andis clipper while you are operating a water faucet, and never hold your clipper under a water faucet or in water. There is danger of electrical shock and damage to our clipper. Andis Company will not be responsible in case of injury due to this carelessness.

FAQ

Knowing the difference between these two blades is essential when trimming hair. A T-blade's curved edges enable easy handling and better access for trimming around the ears, back of neck, beards and moustaches and cutting designs into the hair. For everything else and general shaving, a square blade is the perfect tool.
UltraEdge® blades are long-lasting and dependable. These blades undergo a special hardening process and are finished in chrome to resist corrosion and keep them sharp. CeramicEdge® blades are the pinnacle of blade technology a high tech zirconium oxide ceramic cutting blade means they run cooler than steel and stay sharper longer. CeramicEdge blades are perfect for the hair professional who does a high volume of clipper cuts.
We suggest only using Andis manufactured blades on your Andis tool; they are designed and engineered specifically for that model to achieve optimum cutting performance.
The documentation that came with your clipper or trimmer will reference your blade's item number. If you cannot find it you can search by your tool's item number, model number or name on the Andis Blade Finder.
In the Andis detachable blade line there are several blade sizes that overlap between animal and human use. However, blades used to groom an animal coat should never be used on a human.
Caring for your blades is essential in maintaining their longevity and cutting performance. Blades should be oiled after each use. If your clipper blades leave streaks or slow down, it is a sure sign they need to be oiled. Start by turning off the clipper and removing fragments of hair from the blade with a clipper brush. Clean and disinfect blades by using CoolCare Plus. Use the 5-point oiling system to lubricate your clipper and keep it running at top performance: 3 drops across the teeth of the blade and 1 drop on each back rail. After oiling, turn on and let run for 5-10 seconds to disperse the oil. Turn off and then wipe off any excess oil.
We recommend storing your blades in a low moisture environment to avoid corrosion. A padded blade storage case or pouch will help keep them safe and keep them from getting chipped or dropped which can break them or knock them out of alignment.
Blades are made of metal and oiling them will help reduce corrosion. Since the two metal blades rub against each other during operation, oiling them will also reduce friction thereby delivering better cutting performance. Oiling your blades regularly after each use is an important part ensuring your tool will cut and perform as designed.
We strongly recommend you use Andis Company clipper oil which is specially formulated for Andis clippers and trimmers. However, other clipper blade oils will also work.
We recommend that you oil your blades before and after each use. If your clipper blades leave streaks or slow down, those are signs that they need to be oiled.
Yes, most Andis clipper blades can be sharpened at our factory repair center or at Andis Authorized Service Stations. However, because of the length of the teeth on trimmer blades we do not recommend that these be sharpened. Find a service center near you.
Blades can be purchased on our website or through your local beauty supply store.
The lifetime of a blade depends on how often you use it and how regularly you clean and oil the blade. With proper maintenance your Andis clipper or trimmer blade can last quite a while before replacement.

No more groomer trips
August 14, 2014
I have taken my bichon terrier mix to a groomer for the past 10 plus years. A few months ago I had to cancel an appointment. I couldn't get an appt for another month. I decided to buy the Andis clipper and I'm soo glad I did. It took a couple hours but I think I did a pretty good job. I like that it didn't heat up and it wasn't loud. Dollars well spent!

great clipper
January 31, 2013
I'm very happy with my choice of clipper.

I'm very much the novice and it will take time for my "job improvement" but the clipper is not the problem--I am.

Edie, isn't the least bit bothered by the noise so that is 1/2 the battle, it is so quiet.

Thanks.

Great clippers
January 3, 2010
I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg for a set of grooming clippers. I have tried a lot of different clippers on my toy poodles but their hair would just stop the blades. My mother in law bought me these for christmas two years ago and they are still the best clippers I have ever had!! They cut right though my poodles think hair just like butter. They are wonderful!!!
