Description

Denosyl is a daily supplement that helps support proper liver function. Support of a compromised liver, regardless of the cause, is essential if function is to be improved. Denosyl has not only been shown to markedly increase glutathione levels in the livers of dogs and cats, but to go far beyond that. Denosyl has been shown to protect liver cells from cell death and may be useful in cell repair and healing. It's main ingredient is S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe).

Key Benefits:

  • Denosyl is formulated for liver and brain health
  • Increases levels of glutathione, an important compound for liver health
  • Has also been shown to help protect liver cells from cell death and may help cell reparation and regeneration
  • Increases cerebrospinal fluid in the brain that pets lose as they age
  • Easy to administer tablets for medium dogs

How It Works

Denosyl has been shown to markedly increase liver levels of glutathione,1,2 an important compound for liver health formed when SAMe (S-Adenosylmethionine) is metabolized. Denosyl has also been shown to help protect liver cells from cell death3,4 and may help cell repair and regeneration.5

While best known for supporting the liver in dogs and cats, research has shown that the SAMe in Denosyl may help support cognitive function in dogs.6 Denosyl provides SAMe in a stabilized form to help with brain health and act as a neuroprotector.7-9

Ingredients

S-Adenosylmethionine.

Useful Information

Because the tablet must be kept intact to prevent destruction by moisture, administration range is based on the nearest whole-tablet. The chart below is provided as a guide for administration. Daily administration may also be calculated based on 20 mg/kg of body weight and rounded to the closest tablet size or combination of sizes.

For optimal absorption, tablets should be given on an empty stomach, at least one hour before feeding, as the presence of food decreases the absorption of S-Adenosylmethionine. Studies have shown that, in many cases, tablets or capsules given as a "dry swallow" do not pass into the stomach in cats but may become lodged in the esophagus. It is recommended for pet owners to administer 3-6 cc of water immediately following any tablet administration to speed passage of the tablet into the stomach.10,11 Denosyl 90 mg tablets are ideal for cats because of their small size. If the pet is to receive more than one tablet daily, the total number of tablets may be divided between morning and evening for ease of administration. For example, a daily administration of three tablets could be divided into two tablets in the morning and one tablet in the evening.

Denosyl Canine and Feline Daily* Administration Guide

FAQ

Denosyl is available enteric-coated tablets for cats and dogs.

The liver participates in many activities within the body. It helps the digestion of food through production of bile and helps change digested foods into substances used by the body for energy and growth. The liver also helps process some medications into material(s) that can be used by the body; the liver may assist in eliminating medications from the body once they have had their effect. The liver stores vitamins and minerals and works with sugar (carbohydrates, glucose), fats and proteins. It also helps maintain proper blood clotting and removes many body toxins from the blood. Without proper liver function, the pet's health is compromised.

Because it does so much, the liver may be subject to many things: injury, both direct and indirect, infection, and toxicity. Some of the signs and symptoms of compromised liver function in pets may include: weakness, vomiting, poor appetite, and/or seizures. But if there is mild or early stage liver compromise, the pet can appear normal. If you notice any of these symptoms or your pet is just acting differently, you should contact your veterinarian. Many veterinarians run screening tests for middle aged and older patients during the annual examination to ensure that organ function is normal.

Your veterinarian will advise you as to the amount to initially administer. Depending on your pet's response and status, your veterinarian may eventually adjust this amount to meet your pet's individual needs. Remember, Denosyl enteric-coated tablets should not be broken. When increasing or decreasing their administration, adjustments should be done in full tablet increments. Some pets are given Denosyl only for a short period of time, although Denosyl may be used longer in other animals.
While response varies, owners may note a change in their pet’s appetite, activity, and attitude.
Your veterinarian will likely recommend follow-up examinations, blood work, and/or other laboratory work to check on how well your pet is doing with Denosyl and how it may be helping to support your pet’s liver function.
Denosyl has been shown to be well-tolerated by both dogs and cats with a wide margin of safety.
Yes, your veterinarian may recommend combining Denosyl with other products and/or dietary modifications. There are no known adverse interactions of Denosyl with drugs or other supplements. Denosyl may even protect against negative effects on the liver caused by some medications.
While other S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe) products are available, there can be a significant variance in product quality and activity levels of SAMe. Denosyl is produced using high-quality, researched ingredients and under strict manufacturing standards.
Administration of methionine is not recommended. Providing high levels of methionine to pets with liver compromise may not increase the production of natural S-Adenosylmethionine and has been shown in some cases to increase liver damage.

Like all medicines, Revolt has some side effects. The most common is hair loss at the site of application with or without inflammation (redness, flaking) in cats. Other side effects reported in cats and dogs include vomiting, diarrhea with or without blood, anorexia (decreased appetite), lethargy (sluggishness), salivation, rapid breathing, pruritus (itching), urticaria (welts, hives), erythema (skin redness), ataxia (incoordination), fever and rare instances of death. There have also been rare reports of seizures in dogs.

If you have additional questions about possible side effects, talk to your veterinarian.

In well-controlled clinical studies, selamectin was used safely in dogs and cats receiving other veterinary products such as vaccines, anthelmintics, antiparasitics, antibiotics, steroids, collars, shampoos and dips.

Tell your veterinarian about all medicines you have given your dog or cat in the past, and any medicines that you are planning to use with Revolt. This should include other medicines that you can get without a prescription. Your veterinarian may want to check that all of your dog's or cat's medicines can be given together.

Revolt is flammable - Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames or other sources of ignition. Store below 30°C (86°F). After application, empty tubes can be placed in your normal household refuse for disposal.

Helps liver function
September 17, 2017
It's hard to tell exactly what this product does, but my dogs has always had very elevated liver numbers and our vet suggested this supplement to prevent them from being even higher. It seems to help, as his numbers were slightly higher than usual during the time we weren't using this product.

My 12 year old golden has been on Denosyl since last August when I contacted a holistic vet for Thunder's hip pain and Laryngeal Paralysis. His tongue was a dark pink/purple color indicating inflammation and blockages. Since we started on the Denosyl his tongue has turned a very healthy pink and has stayed that way. I would recommend this product!

I don't know if this product is working or not. It would be nice if these came in a chewable form. Not all animals will take the pill. Even when hidden.

It really helps
August 13, 2014
Our veterinarian recommended we try Denosyl for our almost 15-year-old Brittany, Roxy. Within a very few days we saw a difference in her cognitive function. She is alert, "connected," in great spirits and doing beautifully. The only issue is that you have to give the med on an empty stomach with no food for an hour after. However, we've worked it out and she is truly doing well.

This product was prescribed by our vet and will probably be something our dog will take for the rest of her life. The vet charged almost three times what Entirely Pets charged and it was exactly the same product. We are very happy with our experience with Entirely Pets.

For my Barney
January 28, 2013
Unfortunately, my Barney has liver issues. He's been on denosyl for about 3 years. He is now over 14 and still hanging in there. Only the best for him. My only dislike of denosyl is the price, but because companies and vets know how much we love our pets, they can set the price at anything and we'll pay it...

Denosyl 425mg
January 24, 2013
Thank you for offering this life sustaining product at a reasonable price. Our "KING' of the house, Rudy had to have two rather large cancerous tumors removed...resulting in the removal of over half of his liver. We thought that we had lost him for sure, but he has made a fantastic recovery. It has been six months now since he became ill, and everyday is a blessing. He loves to go swimming in the pool, go on his daily walks, and play "keep away" with his big rawhide bone!!!

Review for Denosyl for dogs over 35 lbs (30 tablets) 425 mg
January 23, 2013
Back in May my 14 year old Siberian began to have liver issues and incontinence. She wouldn't get up and the vet believed she was close to death. I refused to give up so we put her on Denosyl (and several other supplements) and today she acts like a puppy again.

Review for Denosyl for dogs over 35 lbs (30 tablets) 425 mg
October 24, 2012
I have searched the internet as well as stores that sell dog medications and have found that EntirelyPets beats them all! Some of these places that I checked on charge much more for a specific medication than EntirelyPets does and I am very grateful for that. Thank you. Many of us out here are trying very hard to take care of our pets properly, but those that charge higher prices to make more profit does not help anyone out here in their stuggle to purchase affordable medication for their pets.

I am certainly glad to have found Entirely Pets. The prices are more in line, and the quality of service I received was exceptional. I ordered on line, and got through the process without aggravation. My dog is now on Denosyl, and hopefully this will restore her liver function. Thank you for such good service.

My 15 year old Shetland Sheepdog has been on this for more than three years. I've researched multiple websites for the best supplier, but had missed EntirelyPets and was using another company.
Found EntirelyPets to be the best price ever. Delivery was as promised. I have set up a monthly reorder.

I have searched for this medication that is not a prescription, and found it very expensive elsewhere. Not only is it cheaper but Entirely Pets allow you to set up if you need this monthly, every couple of months or however you may need the product. That takes the worry out of having to order it.

Fantastic medication
November 17, 2009
Just less than a year ago our large, 130 lb shepherd mix, had a liver enzyme count that was off the charts. The vet couldn't even measure it. We began giving him Denosyl 425 mg and in 3 months his enzyme count was high but measurable at 710.

A few months later it was down to 615, and today , 3 months after that, it has dropped to 508.

Still a high reading but really excellent results from using Denosyl. We will continue the use indefiiitely.

A huge difference
March 31, 2008
Daily pain meds were raising our 14 y.o. Golden Ret mix liver enzymes dangerously, but Denosyl (2/day for 65-70# dog) brought her down from "off the charts" to "almost normal" again. Her overall health is greatly improved. And she takes them easily in a pill pocket, no bitter taste like some meds.
