This is my 2 1/2 year old chihuahua named Coby. A few years ago my longtime fur buddy was stolen from our home when we were out. I never thought I could get so attached to another pet after feeling such a huge loss. After what felt like an eternity I stopped by to our local animal shelter because I wanted to volunteer and take some doggies out for a walk. When I first laid my eyes on Coby, it was as if he knew me for years!
Two months passed before I came back to visit the animal shelter, and I couldn't believe Coby was still up for adoption. I figured he would be one of the first to go however that was not the case. Coby had a genetic trait "Hip Dysplasia" that had become somewhat painful to him, and at the time I had first met him I never noticed it but just two months later it became very noticeable. I couldn't bear watching him in pain and I was sad to hear he would be put down because the shelter could not afford his hip surgery.
That's when I rushed to his rescue. It took me 20 minutes to fill out his paperwork and take him home that day. I knew it would be a difficult challenge to adjust with a puppy with special needs and that in the coming months money would be tight but I somehow made it happen and in June 2013 he had his hip surgery and is now doing great!
