Heartgard for Dogs & Puppies is a prescription preventive that works to stave off heartworms in dogs that are at least 6 weeks of age. The medication contains ivermectin, which eliminates heartworm infestations by eradicating the tissue stage of their larvae. These ingredients continue to act for a full month, ensuring that the heartworm life cycle ends completely.
Each chewable tablet also features a palatable beef flavor that makes administration simple. There are three formulations of this medication to ensure that providing dogs of all sizes with the appropriate dosage is as simple as possible.

Dosing
- Dosing varies by weight with three dosages for dogs up to 25 lbs, 26-50 lbs, and 51-100 lbs
- For dogs weighing over 100 lbs, combine different chews to meet appropriate dosage
- Usual dosage for dogs of ivermectin is as follows per month (year-round): o Up to 25 pounds – 68 mcg o 26 to 50 pounds – 136 mcg o 51 to 100 pounds – 272 mcg o 100+ varies depending on weight

Administration
- Administer chew orally once per month at the minimum dosage
- If your pet is off Heartgard for 6 months or less, re-start the medication and test after 6 months since microfilaria, that take 6 months to mature, will result in a positive test result
- Do not remove the tablet from its wrapper until ready to give the medicine
- Consult your veterinarian for pregnant or lactating dogs

Side Effects
- Side effects are rare though some pets experience the following:

o Loss of body weight
