How Old Is My Dog?

It is no secret that dogs do not age at the same pace as we, humans, do. In the many situations we share with our dogs, we often wonder what could be his age. When playing with him, when giving him food, when noticing changes in his behavior, or considering possible diseases…

To assess dog’s age, the simple way is to multiply the age by a factor ranging from 5 to 7. This estimation is not accurate and may vary from one source to another.

A dog’s physiological development is not parallel to human’s. It is much faster at the beginning of life, slows down when dogs become adults and accelerates again at the end of life. Another issue you need to take into account is dog size. Unlike other mammals, the smaller the dog, the longer he or she will live, lifespan ranging from 8 to 18 years. But there are exceptions for some breeds.

This infographic created by Animal Patient guides you step by step through the process of calculating your dog’s age and his foreseeable lifespan.
