Most recently SDF canine search teams were deployed out to Chatsworth, near Los Angeles on September 12 in the rescue attempts that allowed a tragic train wreck. The train wreck occured approximately at 4:30 PST when a Metrolink commuter train collided with a freight train. Three Search Dog Foundation teams were on the scene to assist in the recovery of surviving passengers. The team searched all four cars connected to the Metrolink engine. The loss of life was tragic and devastating. The dogs did exactly what they have been taught to do and searched the area quickly and thoroughly. The dogs brought comfort to all the families involved, knowing that everything possible was being done.

September has been a busy month for the Search Dog Foundation. Fourteen of SDF's canines were also recently deployed in the rescue efforts following Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike. All of these rescue teams have safely returned home after canvassing neighborhoods to make sure everybody was accounted for.
